Stay Young at Heart with Winter Fun in Northern Michigan
If you're longing for the freedom and adventure of your youth, a wintertime getaway to the Sunrise Side of Michigan is the perfect escape from the stresses of everyday life. Release your inhibitions and recapture that youthful feeling by enjoying some fun wintertime activities that will have you feeling like a kid again.
When was the last time you went sledding? Ask the locals here in Oscoda, and they'll tell you the best sled hill is at Old Orchard Park. Located in the Huron-Manistee National Forest, along the River Road Scenic Byway, this park overlooks Foote Pond on the AuSable River. Old Orchard's biggest draw in the winter months is its groomed sled hill, located on the west end of the park. Revisit the wonders of childhood together as you barrel down the 45-degree slope on the roughly 300-foot run.
For a classic date night with your sweetheart, head to Tawas Bay Ice Arena for some ice skating. The rink hosts public skate sessions during the weekends for just $5 admission. Lace up your skates, hold hands and take a spin around the ice on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 7-9 p.m. Bring your own skates or rent them.
When you’re ready to take the chill off after a day of sledding or an evening of ice skating, the cozy fireplace in your retreat at Huron House will be waiting to warm you up.
