Spend a Day Exploring Harrisville, Michigan
We can't wait to host you here at Huron House on your next getaway to the Sunrise Side of Michigan. Oscoda has so much to offer visitors: scenic lake views; sandy beaches; crystal clear waters for swimming, boating and fishing; miles of trails for outdoor adventures; and more! But if you want to see more of the beauty of Michigan's east coast, then travel along the Lake Huron shoreline just 15 miles north of Huron House and you'll reach Harrisville, Michigan. Watch boats in beautiful Harrisville Harbor, trek through Harrisville State Park, and visit historic Sturgeon Point Lighthouse. Like Oscoda, it's a great lakeside town to explore and see more of everything we love about Northern Michigan.
A must-see in this quaint resort town is Harrisville Harbor. Designated as a "Harbor of Refuge" by the U.S. Coast Guard, it's a full-service port where boats up to 120 feet long can dock and access provisions for their voyage. The harbor also is a center for salmon and trout fishing. The harbor grounds offer picnic areas, a beach-side fire ring and a hilltop gazebo for viewing Lake Huron's splendor. During the summer months, the harbor hosts a concert series on Wednesday evenings.
Within walking distance of town, you'll find Harrisville State Park, one of Michigan's oldest state parks. This 107-acre park offers a picnic area and pavilion, a hiking trail, beach and swimming areas, and bicycle rentals. Sturgeon Point Lighthouse is just north of the state park. Built in 1870, this historic lighthouse is still maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard, and the tower is open to the public. The lighthouse keeper's house is a maritime museum that is accessible from Memorial Day to mid-September.
During your visit to Harrisville, stop by Alcona Brew Haus for upscale comfort food in a relaxing atmosphere. House-smoked meats, burgers, and flatbreads, plus more than a dozen house-crafted beers. Need just a quick pick-me-up? Then visit the Alcona Coffee Company for a freshly brewed cup of Joe and a delicious homemade cookie or brownie.
