Snowshoe the Eagle Run Trail in the Huron National Forest
Oscoda is the gateway to the Huron-Manistee National Forest and with so many trailheads and access points within such a short distance, it’s hard to pick one and harder to know exactly where it goes. Even in winter, the trails around Oscoda and along the legendary Au Sable River are enjoyed by visitors and residents alike. If the outdoor adventurer in you just can’t wait for spring, grab your gear (we’re talking snowshoes and lots of layers) and head to Eagle Run Cross-Country Ski and Hiking Trail.
Eagle Run is located about 2.5 miles west on River Road and can be found on the right. The trail meanders along the south banks of the Lower Au Sable River and offers scenic panoramic views of the snow blanketed landscape and frozen water. No need to head back the way you came once you soak in the view; Eagle Run is a loop trail system and you’ll find yourself back beside your own private fireplace in your cozy room at the Huron House in no time!
If you don’t have winter equipment, don’t worry. Nordic Sports has been outfitting the outdoor adventurer of Northeastern Michigan since the ‘70s. Stop by the store acros from East Tawas City Park on US-23 for everything you need for your snowshoeing or cross-country skiing trip on the Eagle Run Trail.
