Sandy Beaches of Oscoda, Michigan
While our favorite Oscoda beach is our own private beach here at Huron House, we encourage our guests to explore some of this area's extraordinary public beaches. Whether you're looking for a tranquil spot where you can walk along the soft, sandy shoreline and listen to the waves or a place to engage in some fishing or water sports, you'll find some of the best beaches Northern Michigan has to offer right here.
Oscoda Beach Park
With more than 1,000 feet of sugar-sand beachfront, Oscoda Beach Park is the perfect place to soak up some sunshine on a gorgeous Michigan summer day. This nearly 10-acre park is just two blocks from downtown Oscoda and is loaded with amenities: skateboard park, small basketball court, band shell, pavilion, picnic tables and grills, and plenty of benches under large shade trees. There's a bathhouse that's surrounded by a sunbathing and observation deck with a lighted boardwalk along the shoreline. Take the pathway to the water’s edge and observe Lake Huron in all its splendor from the paved fishing pier.
Huron Sunrise Park
A perfect place to take in a Lake Huron sunrise is this aptly named park. Huron Sunrise Park is just 3 miles north of downtown Oscoda and includes over 2,600 feet of shoreline. Work on your tan, splash in the water and enjoy a picnic on this pristine beach. Also, cyclists can access bike trails here.
Three Mile Beach Park
Adjacent to Huron Sunrise Park is Three Mile Park. This beach is among a handful of Michigan beaches left in their natural condition with miles of sugar sand on which to walk and play. Grills, picnic tables and restrooms make for an enjoyable day-long visit on one of Lake Huron's unspoiled beaches.
Au Sable Shoreline Park
This is where Lake Huron meets the Au Sable River. Shoreline Park provides access to several hundred yards of sugar-sand beach where you can bask in the warm sunshine. Picnic tables, grills and a gazebo make this a great spot for an al fresco lunch. Also, the southern end of the Sunrise Coast Birding Trail begins here, so birding enthusiasts will enjoy viewing the diverse species and habitats from the observation platform.
Van Etten Beach Park
Not all of Oscoda's best beaches are on Lake Huron. The 11-acre Van Etten Beach Park boasts 3,000 feet of water frontage on Van Etten Lake, a freshwater lake just 3 miles from downtown Oscoda. Relax and enjoy the groomed swim beach, or get adventurous with some boating, water skiing or wave running. Of course, there's plenty of lake fishing, too.
