It's Almost Corsair Season
The Corsair Trail system is one of the Midwest’s most well-renowned cross-country ski trail system, so it goes without saying that we love the time of year when the trails open for the winter. It’s not so much winter as it is ski season; or, more specifically, Corsair season. The Tawas area turns into a full-fledged ski town and locals and tourists alike travel these scenic groomed byways to catch an unforgettable glimpse of snow-capped trees beside the ice-locked river, everything glowing in the soft white light of a full moon or the view from a sunny open vista surrounded by sweet-smelling fir trees in the unspoiled wilderness of the Huron National Forest. Whether you’re back to see these sights again or we’ve convinced you to lace up and try something completely new, you’re in for a treat.
The trail system, which comprises twenty-six miles of trails and loops through the Huron National Forest, also has three trailheads, each one located northwest of East Tawas. The Corsair Picnic Area is located on the west side of Monument Road; Wright’s Lake is off Tuttle Road (on the east side of Monument Road), and Silver Valley can also be found on the east side of Monument Road. Each trailhead has parking areas and pit toilet facilities. Take your pick, get geared up (or bundled up… brrr!), and prepare to discover some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the country.
