Holiday Parades on Michigan's Sunrise Coast
The holiday season is a magical time in Michigan, and there's no better way to get into the holly, jolly spirit than with a Christmas parade! Bundle up with your loved one, grab a seat along the parade route, and watch the festive procession of brightly lit floats and marching bands playing joyous carols. Here along Lake Huron, we have two communities – Oscoda and East Tawas – that host fun and festive Christmas parades, complete with tree lightings, sing-alongs, hot cocoa, holiday treats, and more. Plan a weekend getaway at Huron House and usher in the holiday season in spectacular style!
Here in Oscoda, the Northern Lights Parade will light up the night on Saturday, Dec. 4., beginning at 6 p.m. This glowing parade has been a beloved community tradition since 2006. The dazzling lights of the magnificent floats will thrill crowds as they proceed through downtown Oscoda following U.S. 23 South to Mill Street. The colorful floats will be joined by marching bands, dancing groups, lighted vehicles and more, with Santa Claus himself serving as the parade's grand marshal. Warm up with a cup of cocoa on Dwight Street from the Oscoda Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and grab some yummy treats in front of the Oscoda Township Fire Barn to enjoy while you ooh and aah at the impressive display of sparkling lights.
Maybe while you're visiting us, you have plans to tackle your holiday shopping list in the quaint downtown shopping district of East Tawas. If that's the case, then make a day of it on Dec. 4, when the town holds its long-standing Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting. The parade kicks off at 5 p.m., starting at the post office and then heading down Newman Street. This parade has been a time-honored tradition in East Tawas for nearly 50 years! Join the crowds and watch as some top-notch marching bands, colorful floats, military units and community groups make their way through the downtown streets in a celebration of the holiday season. Immediately following the parade, gather at the old Look parking lot in downtown East Tawas for the illumination of thousands of twinkling lights on the massive Christmas tree, as onlookers sing carols and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate. It's a classic Christmas celebration!
