Fun in the Sun at Tawas’s Summerfest
In mid-July, visit Tawas City to celebrate summer, sun, and vintage automobiles at the city’s annual Summerfest, Tours of the lighthouse, plane fly-ins, dancing, and a car show and cruise are some of the featured events for this year’s Summerfest.
Stroll along Lake Huron in Tawas City’s bright sunshine while viewing classic, vintage, and antique restored and original cars and trucks. See the car cruise event on Newman Street. The car show takes place on Sunday from 8 AM to 3:00 PM with voting for the People’s Choice Trophy available for spectators. The awards ceremony takes place at 3:00 PM when the show concludes. Other events taking place for Summerfest are the Sand Castle Contest for kids, street dance, beach volleyball, pet parade, and Kiwanis 5k Run/Walk.
On both days, take a tour of the famous Tawas Point Lighthouse at Tawas Point State Park. The attraction offers spectacular views over Lake Huron for both sunrises and sunsets in a true Victorian-era style maritime setting, the only one on the Great Lakes. The lighthouse and park is also a great location for birding. Guided tour admission is $5 for adults and proceeds go towards the maintenance and restoration of the lighthouse.
