Free Things to Do in Michigan
Upcoming in June, Michigan is hosting a two-for-one free recreation weekend that is jam-packed with some serious outdoor adventures and fun. It’s the perfect time to enjoy your favorite hobby during your visit or learn something new alongside your special someone.
On the weekend of June 8th and 9th, out-of-state visitors as well as residents are invited to get on their ORVs and ride trails and routes designated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for free. During this weekend, riders are not required to possess an ORV license or trail permit! Riders will have access to almost 4,000 miles of off-road trails and five scramble areas.
In addition, the first free ORV Weekend also coincides with the Summer Free Fishing Weekend, when all fishing license fees will be waived! Visit one of Oscoda’s local establishments for all your fishing needs like the AuSable River Store. Rent a boat or schedule a lake and river boat charter to fish for salmon and steelhead. Stock up on bait, nets, flies, and more, or bring your fish in to be cleaned. You can also pick up some essentials like sun screen and waterproof bags for phones and electronics.
