Celebrating Community and Creativity at Oscoda's Fall Festivals
The crisp air of autumn, the rustling leaves, and the scent of pumpkin spice in the air can only mean one thing — it's time for fall festival season in Michigan. From street fairs to arts and craft shows, Oscoda has a fun lineup of events to check out when you stay at Huron House this autumn.
Now in its 22nd year, the Lions Club Fall Festival Arts and Craft Show has become a popular fall event in the Oscoda community. It's held every year on the first Saturday in October at Oscoda High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy the fall vibes and creativity of local artists and craftsmen who will showcase their handmade creations, such as pottery, jewelry, paintings and textiles. See demonstrations from talented chainsaw carvers as they create wood masterpieces on site. With an amazing assortment of vendors, you're sure to find one-of-a-kind gifts and decor items for the upcoming holiday season. There also will be a farmers market with seasonal produce, baked goods and plenty of pumpkins. Come see why this event has become a cherished Oscoda tradition and celebration of creativity and the autumn season.
Another fun fall festival is the Oscoda Fall Harvest Block Party, which was first held in 2017 and has quickly become a popular autumn celebration. On Saturday, October 14, Dwight Street will be closed to traffic for the festivities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The street will be decked out with pumpkins, corn stalks and hay bales to set the festive atmosphere. Enjoy free food including cider, caramel apples and hotdogs. There will be a petting zoo, horse and pony rides, crafts, and games for all ages. Stop at the Lake Theatre to watch "The Great Pumpkin," then enjoy drink specials at the Office Lounge. Businesses along the street will have giveaways, discounts and sidewalk sales.
After the block party, follow Dwight Street a few blocks east until you reach Oscoda Beach Park. Enjoy a crisp fall walk along 1,000 feet of sugar-sand beachfront along Lake Huron. This nearly 10-acre park is just two blocks from downtown Oscoda and is loaded with amenities: skateboard park, small basketball court, band shell, pavilion, picnic tables and grills, and plenty of benches under large shade trees. There's a bathhouse that's surrounded by an observation deck with a lighted boardwalk along the shoreline. Take the pathway to the water’s edge and observe Lake Huron in all its autumn splendor from the paved fishing pier.
The Oscoda Lions Club Fall Festival Arts and Craft Show and the Oscoda Fall Harvest Block Party are treasured celebrations of autumn that welcome locals and visitors to embrace the season together.
