Celebrate the Holidays in Oscoda, Michigan
There are plenty of ways to celebrate the holiday season in the Lower Peninsula, but Oscoda knows how to have the most fun. On December 2nd, the annual Northern Lights Parade will march its way through Oscoda to celebrate all the holiday spirit we have here in town. The lighted parade will start at dusk so spend the day around town shopping or spend the early afternoon at the Tawas Point Lighthouse for the Christmas at the Light event.
Immerse yourself in a life-sized snow-globe scene and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or cider. Free of charge, the Michigan History Museum System, located at Tawas Point State Park, hosts this annual holiday event where you can enjoy a hay ride before taking a self-guided tour of the decorated lighthouse. Tours last approximately 45 minutes but allow yourself more time to view the bricks at the Lighthouse Memory Walkway. Inscribed by generous visitors to the lighthouse, each of the bricks that make up the pathway up to the lighthouse store, oil house, and around the lighthouse allows the Tawas Point Lighthouse to remain in excellent condition. Make some memories that will last forever and put it in stone with a brick inscription of your own. Visit the lighthouse museum store for a memento or gifts for friends and family for the upcoming holidays.
At Oscoda’s Northern Lights Parade at dusk, grab some tasty holiday treats in front of the fire station as the unique floats start to pass by illuminated in bright colors by local businesses, organizations, and a variety of groups. Pick out your own favorite and then stick around afterward for the announcement of the winner of the “Best in Glow” competition before returning to cozy up back at the Huron House.
