2. Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing
The Corsair Ski Trails is one of Michigan’s largest groomed trail networks and is located in the heart of the Huron-Manistee National Forest. It has excellent views along its 22 miles of trails that can be navigated for half-hour walks or all-day excursions. Its wild popularity in the winter season is well-placed; the trails are an excellent and interesting way to experience the charm of Michigan and the Au Sable River. Travel to Nordic Sports across from East Tawas City Park to buy or rent the proper footwear, gear, and equipment for a cross-country ski excursion or a snowshoe hike in the moonlight of the Silver Valley. The Highbanks Trail System is another back-country linear trail system with scenic views of the Au Sable River Valley on the high bluffs of the waterway’s south shore. Access the Highbanks Trail from the Iargo Springs trailhead in Oscoda and expect to visit the Canoer’s Memorial and Lumberman’s Monument along the 7-mile length of the trail.
